Our Transitional Kindergarten

Our Transitional Kindergarten is specifically designed for children who have completed a 4-year-old program and who need another year to develop physically, socially, or academically prior to entering Kindergarten.

Our Mission

Our Mission is to work with you to meet your child's individual needs (social, emotional, academic, and physical) and help him/her to gain important skills to help them be successful in Kindergarten and life.

Maximizing Learning Potential

For each child to reach their potential, we create small groups according to each child's need. If your child is need of extra attention with letter recognition, he/she will be in a group with children working on the same level. The same holds true for children in need of an extra challenge in enrichment. Each group will move at their own pace. No child will be pushed more than he/she is ready for, but each child WILL be challenged according to where he/she is and what skills are present. Our goal is to maximize academic potential, while preparing your child for Kindergarten.

Emotional and Social Growth

Carrington believes this is the most important part of a child's growth. Carrington Academy focuses on your child's emotional and social being, so that it is nurtured and given necessary attention, as even the brightest child can struggle academically. Because this is Transitional Kindergarten, we aim to provide every opportunity for your child to "practice" communication and life skills:

  • Jobs and tasks that require the student to manage his/her own property and grow in independence

  • Kid Meetings between students who are having disagreements. Students are coached on ways to communicate through conflict, be assertive, and come up with solutions to conflict.

  • Student are challenged to encourage and celebrate another child's success

Reports & Grading System

  • Ongoing assessments and observations

  • Weekly progress reports

  • Midterm reports are provided at conference: Mastered, Developing, Needs Improvement, Unsatisfactory, or Not Introduced

  • Enrichment and remediation/review are given as necessary

  • Conferences two times a year or as required or requested by parents

  • Report cards are provided in December and May

Skills and Concepts

Carrington Academy's Transitional Classroom starts the day with a Morning Meeting with 4 components: Greeting, Sharing, Activity, and News. During these components we will be participating in calendar math, counting, birthday review, ABC review, shapes review, patterns, time, weather and seasons.

In addition to our morning meeting, students participate in the following skills/concepts:

  • Language Arts / Phonics / Handwriting

  • Literature

  • Math

  • Science

  • Social Studies / Social Development

  • Health

  • Technology

We believe in offering a calm and nurturing environment in which our Transitional Kindergarten children can be challenged at their individual levels to develop confidence in the skills needed for future success in school.

Serving as a bridge for children who, in essence, need the gift of time, our Transitional Kindergarten program gives your child the time they need. Time is essential to absorb and express ideas, learn more about friendships, assert independence, and examine the world around them. This allows the children to become more confident as they move to the next level of academic achievement.

The Transitional Kindergarten program has a comprehensive curriculum that meets the needs of the 5-year old child at a pace that has been adapted to best suit their abilities. As children acquire skills, they advance at their own individual pace to the next level. We have taken the individual children where they are academically and are closing any gaps there may be and enriching them to their fullest providing the ultimate Kindergarten readiness program.

Openings are very limited; don't miss out on securing your child's enrollment in our Accredited Transitional Kindergarten Program.

Our 2011-2012 school year classroom is currently on a waiting list. Registration will begin in January 2012 for our 2012-2013 school year classroom.
