Georgia Income Tax Credit Re-Direction Program:

The Apogee Student School Choice Scholarship Fund facilitates tax credit contributions from Georgia taxpayers and distributes those funds to qualified Carrington Academy eligible students in the form of Tuition Scholarships.

Every approved contribution to the Apogee Student School Choice Scholarship Fund can be used as a 100% tax credit on a Georgia Income Tax Return. The total amount donated to Apogee can be used as a dollar for dollar credit towards any income tax due to the State of Georgia. The donor can take a charitable contribution deduction on their federal return and a tax credit on their state return. Credits are allocated on a first come first served basis. The Georgia Department of Revenue has allocated $50 million in annual tax credits for the student scholarship program. Parents are encouraged to begin their tax re-direction early each year.

Financial Aid and Scholarship Awards:

Partnering with the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), Carrington Academy has established a financial aid policy and submission process. The purpose of a financial aid program is to provide monetary assistance to those students who cannot afford the cost of attending an independent school.

Financial Aid is provided to students based on demonstrated need as verified through School and Student Services (SSS). “Demonstrated need” is defined as the difference between the tuition cost and the recommended amount which a family is able to contribute towards the student’s education after considering factors such as net income, assets, number of dependants, number of children attending tuition-charging institutions, and any unusual expenses such as medical costs or educational debt.

To be eligible for consideration for financial aid, Carrington Academy requires families to complete a Parents Financial Statement (PFS) application to determine the family’s ability to contribute to educational expenses. Partnering with The National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), Carrington Academy has chosen to work with their School and Student Services (SSS) department for objective, third-party financial aid needs assessment. Financial aid is funded through a combination of resources, including annual giving, The Carrington Academy Teacher Scholarship Fund, and general operating income.

The deadline to submit required financial documents and the Carrington Academy Financial Aid Request Form is March 1, 2012. Decisions about financial aid will be communicated on April 6, 2012.

The process is simple:

  1. Families can go online to sss.nais.org to begin completing the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS)
  2. Families complete the PFS.   The PFS collects information such as family size, total income, savings, investments, indebtedness, medical and dental expenses, any unusual expenses and other assets such as home equity. On the PFS, families indicate which schools should receive their information. The PFS offers families step-by-step instructions along the way, as well as a toll-free helpline.
  3. SSS analyzes the information.   SSS uses the information on the PFS to estimate the family’s ability to contribute to educational expenses. To do so, SSS uses a methodology that has been refined and enhanced over more than 40 years.
  4. Carrington then accesses the family's information in Comp*Assist Online.
As soon as the PFS is completed online (and in less than a week after the printed PFS is received by mail), the school will be able to view the family's financial information and the "Estimated Family Contribution" in Comp*Assist Online.
  5. Carrington then uses the results, and any other information it requires, to make its final financial aid award decision.
Although the school uses the Estimated Family Contribution as a guide, each school makes its own decisions based on its unique school policy and available budget.

All of the above programs are administered and handled through the schools business office.
