A Note From Our Assistant Principal
Spring has finally arrived and we want to make sure all of our students can take full advantage of our outdoor play spaces. One of the best ways to ensure this is for each child’s cubby to be cleaned out and ready for the season. Please make sure that your child’s cubby has a full set of well-fitting weather appropriate clothes that are labeled. Additionally, now is a great time to start collecting sunscreen so that we are ready for the first hot and sunny day of the year. Please label all containers of sunscreen that you send to school with your child. Our teachers are planning outdoor games, lessons and picnics to celebrate spring. We can’t wait to share these activities with your child!
Sincerely,
Jamie Highfield

Healthy eating and fitness at home and school
This fun, food-themed day is about more than just cheese and crackers. Cooking together connects math with literacy skills, science, and more. With the rise in childhood obesity, you can encourage healthy nutrition and fitness habits at home and in the classroom. Create your own healthy snacks and share the recipes with the class. This is a great week to create a “classroom recipe book” with the students and share with the class. Ask family members to donate their child’s favorite food and add to the classroom’s recipe book.
Work Together Wednesday April 18, 2018
Work together, build together, learn together
When children build together they explore math and science concepts and develop their social and early literacy skills. Children can use any building material—from a fort of branches on the playground to a block city in the classroom, or a hideaway made from couch pillows at home. Be creative with building. Think of STEM activities…. Bring items from the outside to your classroom. Don’t be afraid to ask parents for donations to help make this day of building special.
Artsy Thursday April 19, 2018
Think, problem solve, create
Children develop creativity, social skills and fine motor skills with open-ended art projects where they can make choices, use their imaginations, and create with their hands. On Artsy Thursday celebrate the joy and learning children experience when engaged in creative art making. Use any materials—from crayons to paint, clay to crafts! Water color paint outside, or vertical paint on the fence outside.
