A Note From The Principal
Summer has come to an end and another school year is upon us. We’d like to extend a warm welcome to our new families, and a sincere thank you to returning families and those that chose to spend their summer with us. We enjoyed making memories with your children! We recognize that this is a busy time for many families and are using this month’s school newsletter to include reminders on school closures, communication, security and more. Please read through this newsletter carefully, and let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Stephen Morrison

This month’s baby sign is “HAPPY.” To sign the word “happy,” place your hands in front of your chest and brush upwards repeatedly. Baby signs are a good way to help children express themselves and lessen frustration in the early stages of language development. Signing helps young children learn to recognize, and eventually verbalize, the word associated with the sign.

Toddlers
As a toddler, your child will begin to listen more intently and respond to familiar words by shouting, gesturing or reaching for objects. She will start to babble more, and these babbling sounds will evolve into a mix of real and made-up words and phrases. Here is an activity to promote your child’s language development by helping her identify family members:
- Gather some family photos or an album.
- Ask questions that can be answered by pointing or gesturing. “Where is Mommy?” or “Where are you?”
- Ask yes/no or single-response questions about a photo. “Do you see Mommy?” or “Who is this?”

Here are some suggested activities to practice these skills with your child:
- Place a sponge, a cotton ball and an ice cube on the table. Have your child touch each item and describe how the items look. “What color is the cotton ball?” or “What shape is the sponge?”
- Walk up steps with your child. Count your steps from 1 to 10

This month, your child will learn to differentiate between numbers and letters, repeat patterns of three, and identify personal characteristics.
